Veggie Loving Hair

I love to eat and I do it a lot.  It works out well for me that I find veggies to be delicious.  My absolute favorite is cucumbers.  Consuming a couple in one day is normal for me.  Yes, it’s weird.  But, lovely things have come from this odd behavior. I’ve discovered the ideal food for hair health – as well as skin and nail health, too.

First, my nails started sprouting.  I’ve never been able to grow my nails, so this is a big deal.  They’d split and just not really grow.  But now, my nails are so strong and long that they get in my way.  I have to file them often.  I love it.

Next, my hair: It too is grows longer and stronger now.  I’m even getting compliments from strangers.  It doesn’t fall out in the shower or when I brush it anymore either.  I don’t naturally have good hair.  It’s just the food for hair health I include in my diet.

Lastly, my skin is never dry anymore.  It’s now supple and plump even when I wake up. As much as I loved going to court in the mornings and the judge knowing that I was a side-sleeper, it’s way cooler that the pillow lines pop out quickly now.  It’s so important that it’s worth repeating: I don’t naturally have great skin.  It’s just my diet!

Here’s the deal:  Cucumbers are nature’s vanity foods.  They’re jammed with all kinds of body-lovin’ vitamins and minerals, including vitamin K, molybdenum, pantothenic acid, copper, potassium, manganese, vitamin C, phosphorus, magnesium, and vitamin B.  And the best part for beauty: They’re a natural source of biotin and silica.  Cukes are also amazing because they’re 98% water.  That, combined with their high nutrition profile, including the silica and biotin, hydrates you better than plain water; they’re a great food for hair health while also nourishing your skin and nails from the inside out.

Two caveats: They must be organic cukes and you should eat the skin.  The conventional ones can have up to 80% fewer nutrients.1 Eat conventional and your cuke-munching will be all-for-not.  As well, the skin is wear the fiber is.  And in case you care:

  • Due to the lower level of contamination in organic foods, the risk of disease is significantly reduced;2 and
  • By eating organic, you’re avoiding heavy metals and pesticides, dozens of which have been classified by the EPA as known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents);3 and have also been linked to causing Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia.4

Oh and why not try to prevent cancer while you’re at it.  There is evidence in favor of anti-cancer properties from consuming cucumbers daily.5   6   Cucumbers contain unique polyphenols called lignans, and three types of those lignans have a strong connection to reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several cancer types, including breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.7

Of course you don’t have to eat five cucumbers per day to experience these benefits, but, start with one or two.  Try it for a few months and you’ll notice a difference.
